The Reading Chair synopsis
The reading Chair
The book opens up on a little boy
sitting in an oversized wingbacked chair with a book in his lap.
Clearly waiting for people to join him. A blonde headed boy wearing
blue footie jammies. Maybe he's surrounded by busy looking people
doing other things.
Next page: He's sliding down off the
chair. Pudgy diaper butt.
Next page: He drags the book over to
his daddy who is working at his computer, pencil tucked behind his
ear, papers in front of him.
The daddy scoops the baby and book up
and settles them in his lap in the oversized chair.
Opening up the book he begins to read.
“Once Upon A Time...”
As the daddy reads, the baby imagines
himself in the story with daddy.
Slowly as he reads, another child comes
and sits on daddy's lap, a slightly bigger brother who'd been playing
legos or cars.
A dog enters and lays down by the
chair.
As each person enters, they join the
baby's imagined story.
Mom stops washing or drying dishes and
sits at dad's feet, petting the dog.
A teenaged daughter who had been busy
on her phone, puts it away and leans on the back of dad's chair
looking over his shoulder.
Baby falls asleep.
People go back to what they were doing.
Last page: A blonde headed man pulls
the same children's book off a shelf and looks at it.
Then pulls a new baby close and says,
“let's read a story.”
Maybe there's an imagined scene with
the baby, and the mom starts to come in.
